Q. Is there a minimum age on your RIB ride?
A. The minimum age for passengers on the RIB ride is 5 years old. The age can be raised if the wind/wave size increases. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A ratio of one adult per child is required for children under the age of 10.
Q. How long is the trip?
A. Our trips last around 2 hours and consist of 15 min safety briefing & life jacket fitting, 20 min harbour tour towards Christchurch Bay, around an hour and 20 mins at sea with speeds reaching up to 30kn (35mph) and 20 min harbour tour back to Christchurch Quay.
Q. What should I wear?
A. You should dress appropriately for the time of year. We do not try to get passengers wet but it can happen. A few layers and soft soled flat shoes should be fine. We also provide light waterproof jacket on request. You will be seated on jockey seats and will be wearing a lifejacket with a crotch strap. Short skirts /dresses do not lend themselves to this arrangement so we would advise against wearing them for your trip. No high heels please.
Q. Is the experience appropriate for everyone?
A. RIB's are very safe boats (that's why they are used by military, coastguards and RNLI) but it is potentially a very dynamic experience. It is not suitable for people who are pregnant or who may be adversely affected by shock loads. Passengers with larger body proportions may find the experience unsuitable with our twin jockey seats. If you have a concern regarding suitability please contact us and we will endeavour to help. Passengers under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted on the experience.
Q. How fast do your boats go?
A. Our maximum speed is 30kn (35mph). The maximum speed on your trip will depend on the conditions at sea but your skipper is very experienced and will ensure that you have a very safe and memorable ride. The speed limit in the harbour is 4kn so plenty of time to take in the beautiful scenery.
Q. Do you operate in all weather conditions?
A. We don't mind a drop of rain! If the weather looks inclement on the day you should ensure you bring appropriate clothing. If the weather is bad enough to cancel the trip we will contact you beforehand and offer alternative date or a full refund. If, on the day, the local sea conditions at the intended destination are considered unsuitable by your skipper, an alternative destination may be visited.
Q. Can we record the trip?
A. Yes, although whilst at sea we recommend that your phone is tucked securely away as it can be windy and bumpy on the boat. Use of cameras, phones or recording equipment is at your own risk.
Q. Are there toilets onboard?
A. Not onboard but there are toilets at our departure sites.
Q. Can I take a bag with me?
A. You can take a small bag with you which can be placed inside a storage area under the seat.
Q. Do you take stag and hen parties?
A. No. Unfortunately we can't accommodate stag and hen parties.
